Curse facebook for forcing me to not post here. :(
We went to Monterey
California on Saturday. We checked out the
Thomas Kinkade Nagional Archive, walked the world famous
Cannery Row of
John Steinbeck
note. We also hit a couple of beaches. Alas, they were very
"keply".
And "kelpy" on the beach means that were tons and tons of
rotting vegitation and jillions of flies. That stuff needs to
stay out to sea. :(
And just for the foo of it, here's my last bunch of
Facebook posts:
- Dana M. Diederich wonders what trends and correlations his more Republican-oriented friends see in these graphs: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3b/USDebt.png

- Dana M. Diederich thinks we should pause and remember The Onion, January 17th, 2001. Spooky stuff.

- Jos Backus and Richard Folker like this.
- Dana M. Diederich
Strange; you two are about as opposite as they come on the political spectrum. :-)
- Richard Folker
yeah but the Onion comes up with some funny stuff on both sides.
- Dana M. Diederich also really, really needs to update his blog in a meaningful way. These little 'tweets' on Facebook greatly interfere with blog posting.
- Jon Villarreal
How dare you defile what I write on fb by calling it a tweet.
- Dana M. Diederich
I'm targeting all of it my friend. I have not yet begun to defile "Web 2.0" scheisse.
- Brian Sherwin
A lot of my friends have moved off of thier blogs to fb.
- Dana M. Diederich
It's a damn shame.
- Dana M. Diederich is reading Javascript: The Good Parts (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596517748/) It arrived today from Amazon.
- John W. McKenna
So, how is it?
- Dana M. Diederich
I'm lucky because we have some of the early Netscape guys working at Liveops. So if I get stuck, I'll be able to get some real expert help. :-)
The book is dense and dry so far, but very illuminating. Javascript is Lisp with C syntax, believe it or not. It has full closures and first class functions. At the same time, Javascript has a ton of mistakes in it. This book is about just using the good features, and avoiding the bad.
- Dana M. Diederich is feeling kinda crummy today.
- Becky McKenna
sick crummy or pissy crummy ;-)
- Tom Newell
I'm feeling the same way Dana. Sick crummy that is......
- Dana M. Diederich and family almost made it to the Sausalito Art Festival. (http://www.sausalitoartfestival.org/) Instead, we hung out in Chinatown and the mission district in downtown San Francisco.
- Dana M. Diederich thinks that Al Franken is pretty smart, even if some don't agree with his politics.

- Theodocio Dimitri Kountouris
and the devil is sneaky.....
- Theodocio Dimitri Kountouris
i mean mephestapheles.....
- Dana M. Diederich
I wasn't aware of any particularly devilish traits that Al Franken has. :)
- Matthew Roozee
I'm not sure this is a difficult skill to master. Doing it without practice is tough, though.
- Dana M. Diederich thinks it's time to start the long weekend. Dana M. Diederich is implementing some jQuery data grids while listening to http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2009/03/doug-crockford-javascript-good-parts.html
- Dana M. Diederich is rather enjoying porting our old (but only somewhat crusty) file-based inventory 'database' into MongoDB. (http://www.mongodb.org/)
- Alan Jamison
Sorry, not supported. Tee Hee.
- Dana M. Diederich
Ha! Come work in silicon valley and learn the ways of productivity. :-)
- Frederick Nacino
hmm wonder if it has an embedded feature as well.. doesn't look like it from its homepage
- Dana M. Diederich
I'm not certain, but I don't think so. It's extremely fast on writes and reads, and it has a bullet-proof replica mode that has completely transparent redundancy. I did hard kills on the various replicas and there was no data loss and the clients didn't even notice.
